Zoolingualism is a natural unique ability to understand and speak the language of sea creatures (for instance, dolphins and whales).
Overview[]
Merpeople with this ability seem to only be able to understand and speak the language of sea creatures from their region as Mimmi was unable to speak penguin who are only from the Southern Hemisphere.
Unlike Siren Singing which can only be acquired via being born with this ability, it is unknown if this ability can be learned, although it is assumed not. In H2O: Mermaid Adventures, the main characters gain the ability to speak with all sea creatures, including cetaceans, cephalopods, fish, marine reptiles, and crustaceans.
Nixie, Sirena, and Rita are known for demonstrating this ability with dolphins, while Mimmi also speaks dolphin, humpback and blue whale. Some merpeople are born with this ability, it is not possessed by all of them and presumably it can't be learned.
History[]
In "Dolphin Tale", Nixie spoke the language of dolphins when talking to Lyla. Sirena later displayed this ability when she told Lyla they were safe.
In "Bad For Business", Mimmi commented how humpback whales were gossips.
