Weilan's Grandmother

Weilan's Grandmother was an elderly natural-born Eastern mermaid, and the mother of an unnamed daughter that was Weilan's mother. Weilan's grandmother was also a member and one of the elders of the Eastern Pod's Mermaid Council, presumably as its head, and a good friend of a powerful Northern mermaid Nerissa, and a Southern mermaid Rita Santos. After the Eastern Pod's eventual disbandment due to the attack of a Water Dragon (actually a cursed Nerissa) that turned almost all of its members into human beings, Weilan and her elderly grandmother moved onto the mainland of China, and eventually settled in Shanghai, where they moved into an apartment, and Weilan started attending human school. Due to her advanced age, Weilan's grandmother was unable to travel across the country in search of the other surviving members of the Eastern Pod, and raised her granddaughter as practically a land girl. Her current fate remained unknown, and it is unknown if she survived to see the eventual restoration of her native pod by her granddaughter and her best friend and fellow Southern mermaid, Ondina, remained unclear.

Biography[]

At some point, this mermaid joined the Eastern Pod's Mermaid Council as one of its elders, presumably the head. When a rebel mermaid Aurora attacked the Eastern Pod, she introduced her granddaughter to Nerissa, a powerful Northern mermaid. When the Water Dragon (actually a cursed Nerissa) wiped out the Eastern Pod, Weilan and her grandmother were the ones who escaped unharmed. She is both close friends with Nerissa and Rita Santos, and welcomed the latter to stay in her house when she came to visit Shanghai. But to ensure her granddaughter's safety from the Water Dragon, she sends her away to Australia to live with Rita. They both are currently the only remaining mermaids from the Eastern Pod.

She has met Ondina after she came to live with her and her granddaughter in China to help Weilan restart the Eastern Pod.

Physical appearance[]

Weilan's Grandmother is a senior mermaid. Her appearance is unknown, but when not under the Legs Spell, her hair is let down and she has an orange-scaled tail with an orange-scaled top.

Mermaid Powers[]

Weilan's Grandmother possessed all the powers and abilities of a mermaid native from the Eastern Pod. She utilized her magic with Chinese kung fu styles, and like her granddaughter, she possessed the deep knowledge of certain moves known only to Eastern mermaids, such as Turn the Tide, a defensive move to deflect magic, a spell to transfer knowledge, etc.

Her powers are unknown, but it is presumed that's she's a powerful mermaid due to her advanced age and experience.

  • Invisibility: The ability that all natural merpeople are shown to have. It allows her to stay invisible for a while, and it's only temporary.

  • Turn the Tide: An Eastern self-defense spell used to turn magic back on itself. It is a very difficult spell to learn, and Eastern hatchlings were taught this spell as a part of the curriculum of the Eastern Pod's Merpeople School.
  • Knowledge Transference Spell: An Eastern spell that transfers knowledge to another person, making them know what the caster knows. Only tenth-level Eastern mermaids can cast it properly, and if not done right, it will transfer everything.

  • Moon Spell Control: An essential skill that every merperson has to learn to master properly, as it lets them survive the Full Moon's spell without letting it control them. As a mermaid native from the sea, she learned it when she was hatchling.
  • Limited Transformation: Weilan's grandmother used the Legs Spell to turn her tail into human legs. She can transform into a mermaid ten seconds after physical contact with water. She turns back into a human a few minutes after she is out of the water and when the water on her has fully dried. Once her body is completely dry, she turns back into a human along with the outfit she was wearing before the transformation.
  • Enhanced Breath: Merpeople are able to hold their breath without any discomfort for at least fifteen minutes before needing to breathe, and will get unconscious if the time period extends over past those minute.
  • Speed-Swimming: The ability that all mermaids and mermen are shown to have. It's the ability to swim at an incredible speed, and as such, their bodies is encased in bubbles because of the incredible high speed. Weilan has the ability to swim at a super speed, and dive at depths no human being is capable of, completely protected from its cold and water pressure.
  • Aquatic Adaptation: Depending on where they are born and raised, merpeople may be resistant to certain elements in that area.
  • Enhanced Senses: Merpeople may have slightly enhanced senses suited to life underwater due to living in the sea. To sea born mermaids, land people smell horrible, even the average hygienic human emits this smell but only mermaids can detect it.
  • Endurance: Merpeople are able to swim for days without exhaustion, something which no human has the stamina to do. They can also dive at depths no human could withstand.
  • Amphibious: Merpeople's respiratory system can extract oxygen from both water and air, allowing them to breathe freely both underwater and on land.
  • Extended Lifespan: While merpeople do age, their lifespan is far longer than that of humans.

  • Moon Ring: Weilan's grandmother probably owns a Moon Ring just like her granddaughter, and along with the rest of the Mermaid Council's elders, was responsible for giving newly Eastern Pod-initiated mermaids their own Moon Rings.

    She has all the typical weaknesses onf an natural-born Eastern mermaid.

    Trivia[]

    • Despite her granddaughter probably not finishing Mermaid School due to the Water Dragon's attack, she owns a Moon Ring. This is possibly due the fact that she may had been home-schooled, like Lyla, Nixie and Sirena by Rita Santos and Weilan by her grandmother.
    • Weilan and her grandmother were the only known surviving members of the Eastern Pod who escaped unharmed and survived the theft of magic and subsequent disbandment of the ancient pod.
      • Due to not being largely active in the sea due to their banishment, Eastern mermen presumably made it out unharmed as well, and retained their merman selves and magical powers. It was revealed by Weilan that, based on the Eastern Pod's mermaid experience with the water dragon (actually a cursed Nerissa), there was no telling of what the water dragon's cold breath could do to a bewitched merman, implying that mermen were already banished prior to the pod's eventual disbandment, and were among the surviving members of the pod.
      • It was unknown if Weilan's mother was among the casualties in the Eastern Pod, or if she also survived the pod's fate, and subsequent disbandment, and moved with her mother, and daughter onto the mainland of Shanghai in China for safety.
    • It is unknown if she harbors any more prejudices against mermen, like her granddaughter who was unafraid and even interested in meeting one.
