The Moon Spell Control was an essential skill that allowed a celebrant merperson withstand the Full Moon's natural, mesmerizing reaction it held on them, and prevent its bewitching effect from controlling them.
Description[]
In order to learn to master the skill properly, a fledgling merperson was required to learn to let the full moon's power flow through their bodies, rather than resist it, however, it still required from a celebrant an intense amount of concentration. However, they would develop a natural immunity to the enchantment gradually over time, allowing them to be exposed to the moonlight and control its mesmerizing effect from bewitching them again. According to Sirena, merpeople native from the sea learn it when they are hatchlings.
In H2O: Just Add Water, newly-turned mermaids Emma, Cleo and Rikki do not know the existence of this skill, so they end up under the Moon Spell constantly. After being turned into a mermaid, Charlotte mastered it by herself after only one Full Moon, due to being told earlier about it by Lewis, who back then was her boyfriend. In 2008, Cleo and Rikki seem to have mastered the Moon Spell Control after twenty two Full Moons since they became mermaids. Just like Lewis said in the episode "The Awakening", "You guys got that sorted". Bella wasn't bewitched by the Moon Spell when she was introduced, due to having mastered the Moon Spell Control after seven Full Moons since she was turned into a mermaid, before her arrival at Mako Island back in 2008.
In "Outcasts", Nixie, Lyla and Sirena are in Mako Island's Moon Pool to watch over it. But Zac ends up falling in the pool, disrupting the process and breaking a Tailless Spell that he was casted into by his mother when he was just a hatchling.
In "Reunion", Evie is concerned that she will fall under the Moon Spell again. But Sirena, Mimmi and Ondina decided to help Evie with the Moon Spell Control. Sirena helped Evie through the process.
Trivia[]
- It's unknown if Emma was able to master it.
- It's remained unclear when exactly Cleo and Rikki mastered the Moon Spell Control, however, in "Unfathomable", the girls, with Emma, don’t seem infected by the Moon Spell; they manage to go to Mako during a full moon without being bewitched.
