The Moon Spell is the reaction of the Full Moon in every merperson. They can fall under this spell by standing outside on a Full Moon night, by looking directly at the Full Moon, or just by its dangerous reflections on glasses, mirrors and liquid-filled bowls.

Description[]

They will react in strange ways and are out of their true selves, because they are under the Full Moon's control and it makes them acts and do whatever it wants. An active Moon Pool can even protect a merperson of the Full Moon's influence. It is revealed that merpeople native from the sea learn Moon Spell Control when they are hatchlings.

A human-turned mermaid can be temporarily turned into a Siren if she is bewitched by the Moon Spell. However, her Siren status and magical song will only lasts when the Full Moon is up. By morning, she will reverts back to her regular mermaid status and her true voice will be once again revealed.

Formerly human mermaids tend to become amorous and seek out their love interests regardless of how their personalities have been altered by the moon spell. Cleo, Emma, Rikki and Evie each sought out the boy they loved. Zac didn't suffer this side-effect, as he was constantly compelled to seek out the Merman Chamber.

Due to the Moon Ring containing the power of moonlight, a merperson in the possession of one was able to simulate the effect of the recurring Full Moon at other times, even in a daytime. They were able to bewitch a fellow merperson into being bewitched by the Moon Spell, provided that they had not already grew immune to its effects over time, and even activate the magic of the Moon Pool, and summon a water dragon from its lunar hibernation-like cycle.

Trivia[]

  • All attempts by the protagonists to avoid the moon reflection always backfire in someway; usually due to the desires of others choosing to bother them when they want to be left alone.
  • Going by the fact Bella doesn't mention ever having weird episodes being under the moon spell (as she became a mermaid as a child), it's highly likely that it's teenage hormones that caused her fellow human-turned mermaids to act so weird.
