The cave of Mako's Moon Pool

The Moon Cave was a special type of cave across the Earth, in which a specific Moon Pool was located, and it was at least partially created from the impact of a celestial object in antiquity.

Description[]

Inside the caves, a special type of rock contained a very special type of gemstone, which itself contained the power of moonlight.

Inside the cave, there also existed a special pool of magical Moon Water, that served as the source of magic for mermaids and mermen, and their lives and magic were linked to the continued existence and physical well-being of a specific Moon Pool of a different pod, which meant that in the unfortunate event where the cave surrounding the pool was damaged and destroyed, and the pool itself was deprived of its source of moonwater, all the merpeople linked to it were to perish and die along with it if the life-link to their source of magic was not resolved in time.[1] The pool itself reacted differently in accordance to the specific lunar phases, and other celestial occurrences, and was able to turn a regular human being into a merperson bestowed with specific magical, elemental powers over water, and the weather while it was still in its active state.

During their seventh lunar cycle since one's "birth" as a merperson, a fledgling merman hatchling's magical powers and connection to the specific Moon Pool that served as the source of their magic was to develop and escalate to greater levels of strength than ever before, although its very nature remained largely a mystery.

When the comet entered within a range of collision with the Earth, the nearest Moon Pool of its trajectory generated a type of a waterfall from its walls, and a type of tentacle from its waters in order to warn nearby earthlings, including merpeople of the comet's eventual impact.

Story[]

In ancient times, an impact of a celestial object created a part of Mako Island,[2] approximately 50 kilometers off the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, where the first known Moon Pool was later established at its heart. It was believed that several of its shards impacted other places on Earth, creating the set of sea caves at the Irish coast, and possibly other moon pools across the globe. The rock of these caves is the same material as a comet, creating a magnetic attraction that regularly pulls it to Earth.

Trivia[]

  • In H2O: Mermaid Adventures, the cave of Mako Island's Moon Pool was covered in a type of phosphorescent moss that illuminated in the dark.
  • The appearance of Mako's Moon Pool changed many times throughout the series. The first time it changed was in "Love Potion #9" until the Season 3 where it changes again and the other times in every season of Mako: Island of Secrets.
  • These places were believed to be formed after the impact of the celestial object on the Earth in antiquitk. It formed a part of Mako Island, and other of its pieces were believed to impact other parts of the world, creating alternative Moon Pools across the globe, including a set of sea caves at the Irish coast.
  • The underwater entrance to the Moon Pool in Mako Island is 6m deep and usually takes 20 seconds for a land person go through it.
