Meeting Rita is the third episode of Season 1 of Mako: Island of Secrets.
Synopsis[]
Attempting to capture Zac in his natural environment, Sirena, Lyla, and Nixie follow him to school. When their plan fails, the school principal, Rita Santos confronts them and confiscates Sirena's Moon Ring. In trying to get the Moon Ring back, the mermaids uncover Rita's secret – she too is a mermaid! Begrudgingly, Rita agrees to help the mermaids while they’re on land.

- Zac and his friends start their first day of school.
- Unlike H2O, the name of the school is revealed to be Suncoast High.
- When the girls follow Zac to school, they attend Biology class, which they find is barbaric for humans (land people) to teach their children.
- First time one of the moon rings is stolen.
- First appearance of The Suncoast High.
- It's not explained why Rita thought the Moon Ring was stolen; since only mermaids would have one and humans wouldn't. Though it's possible that she had been living on land so long that she forgot the telltale awkwardness of mermaids not used to the Legs Spell.
- Rita owns a cat named Poseidon.
- It can be inferred that the mermaids sleep in the Moon Pool, it can also be inferred that the H2O mermaids are long gone from the island, due to the new mermaids sleeping there
- The girls finally get some "normal clothes"
- It took Zac 23 seconds to transform
- The girls are incredibly scared of cats, it is unknown why Rita isn´t and if she was, how long it took her to get over that fear.
- This is the first appearance of Rita´s moon pool
