Hydro-Thermokinesis is the water-based power to heat and boil the water or anything containing liquid at will.

Description

Hydro-Thermokinesis is the ability to heat and boil the water or liquids in general. It's the most volatile and dangerous of all three original powers, as well as one of the most dangerous powers a merperson possess. When activated, this power will make the water to increase in temperature and boil, causing the water to evaporate quickly. Hydro-Thermokinesis is most useful when the merpeople need to dry off their tails faster, which triggers Limited Transformation back into human form in only a few minutes. It's possible that mermaids can only increase the temperature of liquid water, but they can't actually control and reverse it. In some cases, Rikki was able to increase temperature on some objects without the water, such as bubbles and door knob, implying that she can heat up the small water molecules around those dry objects.

Throughout the series, it was shown that this power could easily get out of control. A Full Moon could cause this power to spin out of control, causing everything a merperson touched to instantly dehydrate and ignite, demonstrating some aspect of Pyrokinesis. However, it only lasted when the Full Moon was up, and this ability was gone when the Full Moon set.

It was also one of the three original regular powers granted by the Moon Pool at the heart of Mako Island. This power also can be summoned by a mermaid with a Moon Ring.

Channeling

This power could be channeled through the use of one's hands. The hand gesture for this power was a closing/closed fist which might symbolize pressure, tension and the amount of heat needed to boil water. However, not all mermaids and mermen activated this power in this way, each of them possessed a unique way of activating it.

Developed Powers

Pyrokinesis and Electrokinesis

If a merperson with this power entered the waters of any active Moon Pool under the Elemental Moon, it was enhanced to Pyrokinesis, the power to start and put out fires, and Electrokinesis, the ability to control electricity and to summon a lightning from the sky from anywhere, and presumably a full-fledged Thermokinesis.

• Hydro-Thermokinesis is one of the three original powers granted by the Moon Pool at the heart of Mako Island, as well as the most volatile and dangerous of all three powers. The best known mermaid who has this power is Rikki Chadwick.
• It was unknown if a merperson with this power could amplify their Hydro-Thermokinesis to a full-fledged Thermokinesis, just like a merperson's Hydro-Cryokinesis to a full-fledged Cryokinesis.
