Cryokinesis is the elemental power to freeze anything without the presence of liquid water and make it snow. It can also be used to raise or lower cold temperatures at will. Despite this, a merperson doesn't have control over ice or anything related. It is the amplified version of Hydro-Cryokinesis that human-turned merpeople receives in any active Moon Pool during a rare planetary alignment known as the Elemental Moon.
Cryokinesis and Hydro-Cryokinesis are known to be common powers for Northern merpeople, as they had been stated to use their powers to trap sharks in ice prisons. It is also shown that a sick merperson could develop this power, causing them to sneeze streams of ice, but they were unable to control it, and the ability was presumably gone after they were cured. This power also can be used to remove Moon Water from a human being's body. The Snowing Spell can be cast by a mermaid through a Moon Ring to simulate one of the aspects of Cryokinesis, which can also be boosted greatly by a Moon Ring.
History[]
In "Stormy Weather", Emma looks at the Full Moon and swims to Mako Island with the girls and was in the Moon Pool during the special planetary alignment which magnifies Emma's original power to much more powerful levels, Cryokinesis. Under the spell of the moon, together they create a powerful electric storm and blow Lewis away. The next day, Emma is surprised when she discovered her new powers, she was able to freeze any object without water, even freezing an entire room.
In "Control", Lewis has little success when he decides to test the girls' new and unpredictable powers. It is shown that she can explode ice when she was practising her power in the Moon Pool with the balloon penguin. Emma then uses her new powers to help Elliot win at soccer, freezing a line in the soccer field and causing a player to fall.
In "Riding for a Fall", it is shown that she can make snow when she causes a small snowfall to cool the sick horse.
This power can also get out of control and become quite dangerous, in "The Truth About Evie", Evie catches a cold and it causes her to lose control of her ever-pyrokinetic and cryokinetic powers. Whenever she sneezes she lights things on fire. The mermaids try to come up with a cure, but it merely changes the effect of the sneeze from fire to ice. At the café, Evie sneezed and froze Cam in solid ice, in this case, could cause his death via hypothermia or frostbite alone.
