Charlotte Watsford and Lewis McCartney's relationship was one of the relationships in the H2O series.
Season 2[]
Control[]

Charlotte meets Cleo on her first day of school and they chat until Cleo's boyfriend, Lewis, shows up to walk Cleo to class, leaving Charlotte to gaze at him as he walks off with his girlfriend. Later, Lewis finds Charlotte painting at the beach and he is impressed by her art skill. She teaches him how to paint as delicately as she can, telling him that if he wants to fly like a butterfly, he can't flap like a crow. Inspired by her technique, Lewis calls Charlotte a genius and later uses her words to help Cleo learn to delicately use her powers like she used to. At the end of the episode, Lewis sits at the JuiceNet by himself after getting dumped by Cleo. Charlotte sits at his booth with him and after finding out that him and Cleo broke up, she says that Cleo must have been an idiot to break up with him.
The One That Got Away[]
As Lewis' new friendship with Charlotte grows to Cleo's dismay, so do Cleo's suspicions about her, but she insists it has nothing to do with jealousy. Cleo continuously embarrasses herself when she falsely accuses Charlotte of several things, such as Charlotte having a boyfriend called RJ or Charlotte setting her old school's art room on fire, even going as far as to research information about her old school and reading her diary when she accidentally leaves it at the JuiceNet. Cleo eventually confronts Charlotte when she sees her hanging out with Lewis again and Charlotte, angry that Cleo went through her personal business, reveals that the "RJ" she wrote about in her diary was just an acronym for Romeo and Juliet. When Lewis attempts to talk to Cleo about her false accusations, Cleo insists that she isn't jealous of him and Charlotte's friendship, but rather was just worried that Charlotte would find out their secret.
Fire and Ice[]

Charlotte is in the background while Lewis and Nate fight. It seems she might be on Lewis' side.
Hocus Pocus[]

As Lewis is collecting algae on the beach to make a mermaid potion, Charlotte finds him and asks why he would need to collect algae, wondering if it has to do with the fantasy book she always sees him reading. Lewis brushes her off and tells her that he just enjoys collecting algae. Later, as Lewis' wish-granting potion floods the JuiceNet, Charlotte stops by, wanting to order a drink but Lewis stops her from going in and tells her that the JuiceNet is closed for the moment but he would still get her the drink she wants. As Charlotte grows increasingly impatient for her drink, she catches Lewis entering the JuiceNet with Cleo and grows suspicious and jealous. She tattles on them being in there all alone to Wilfred. After Charlotte finally is able to get into the JuiceNet, Lewis gives her her drinks and she smiles at him, a little irritated that he made her wait for it for so long.
Pressure Cooker[]

As Lewis is about to go fishing, Charlotte brings her some food she made for him and he offers her to come with him, to which she happily accepts. At the dock, Charlotte admits that the reason she made him food was because she wanted to invite him to her mother's dinner, but he declines and says he is busy. As Charlotte and Lewis start to pack up to leave, Cleo sees them together and gets angry that he took her to their old fishing spot. That night, Charlotte and her mother show up to Cleo's house for dinner and they both aren't happy to see each other. Lewis shows up looking for Cleo and is surprised to see that Charlotte is there too. Lewis gets Cleo alone and tries to tell her that nothing is going on with Charlotte, but Charlotte walks in, knowing that they are talking about her and tells them that it's probably for the best that they stick around with their parents. After Cleo accidentally overcooks the fish, Charlotte asks Lewis to help her with fixing it and he politely says no, causing Charlotte's mother to comment that Charlotte had told her he was shy.
Lewis attempts to tell Cleo once again that nothing was going on between him and Charlotte, but Charlotte catches them again and asks Cleo to get her something. Charlotte accidentally spills flour on her, causing Cleo to run off. Charlotte finds Cleo in the bathroom and apologises and asks her if there's a problem with her potentially going out with Lewis, to which Cleo insists that that isn't the case. Lewis, assuming that Cleo still has a problem with Charlotte, decides to talk to Charlotte and tries to tell her that while he really likes her, he doesn't like her in that way, but she takes it the wrong way and hugs him. Cleo walks in on them right when they start hugging and gets even more upset, using her powers to squirt water at Charlotte's mother, prompting the two to finally leave. The next day, Charlotte and Lewis talk and Charlotte accepts that Lewis isn't ready to move on but is okay with waiting. As Cleo catches Charlotte and Lewis talking again, Charlotte gives Cleo a smug look and the two become enemies.
In Hot Water[]
Charlotte runs into Lewis at JuiceNet and he shows her a program that he has been working on. As he is showing her, his laptop begins to malfunction and ends up dying before he can save his work onto the flash drive that Charlotte gives him, leading him to go get a job at the marine park. As Cleo is yelling at Lewis afterwards for stealing her job, Charlotte walks up to him and asks if he got a job yet to replace his laptop, with him responding, "Yeah, but I wish I hadn't." Later, Charlotte tells Lewis that he shouldn't blame himself for stealing Cleo's job as it was not his fault that she got fired in the first place. Lewis tells her that he still feels bad because she loved having that job but she still believes he didn't do anything wrong.
Wrongs Side of the Tracks[]

Offscreen, Lewis apparently loans Charlotte his jacket. In an attempt to make Cleo jealous, Charlotte asks Cleo if she could give the jacket back to him for her. After Cleo awkwardly gives Lewis the jacket back, Lewis tells Charlotte that she should've given the jacket to him directly instead of asking Cleo to do it because of how awkward it was. Lewis clarifies to Cleo later on that he only gave her his jacket because she was cold and he was trying to be nice, not because they were in a relationship. Cleo tells him that it wasn't a big deal. At Rikki's party, Lewis gives Cleo his jacket to show her that she is still one of his closest friends.
Riding for a Fall[]

Lewis is nominated for a prize and invites Cleo, but she thinks it is not a good idea since that they are only friends now, but with Charlotte desperate for wanting to go out with him she invites herself along. However, Cleo eventually changes her mind and decides to go with him, leading him to have to lie to both girls, telling them that he is now sick and will not be attending. As Lewis is about to leave to go to the award show on his own, Cleo and Charlotte show up, both intending on accepting the award in his honor, but the two of them realize that Lewis lied about being sick and invited them both, making them both angry. Both girls also realise that they got the exact same dress. In the end, Lewis ends up going without a date.
Missed the Boat[]

Charlotte invites Lewis to go on a trip on his boat so that they could go to a beautiful place and she can draw it. Lewis, however, declines because he is expecting Cleo to ask him for help studying biology like she always used to. That night, just as Cleo is about to call him for help, Charlotte arrives at Cleo's house to be her tutor instead. Charlotte assigns Cleo a weekends-worth of work to keep her busy (and from interrupting her date) and invites Lewis to have a picnic on the beach while she sketches. While on their date, Charlotte shows Lewis her grandmother's old sketches of Mako Island and begs him to take her there because she's always wanted to paint it just like her grandmother did and he agrees to take her the following day. That night, when Charlotte arrives at Cleo's house to assign her more biology work, Cleo finds her sketches of Lewis and realizes that she was only assigning her so much work so that she could get closer to Lewis. Cleo, Rikki and Emma corner Lewis the next day and he reveals to them that he is taking her to Mako Island so that she could sketch the beach. While the trio try to convince him that taking her to Mako Island is a horrible idea, he gets angry that they don't trust that he can keep the secret from Charlotte and storms off to take her anyway.
Still not trusting Lewis, the girls follow him and Charlotte to Mako and spy on them. As the two awkwardly sit together by a river on the island, Cleo, trying to get a closer look, accidentally falls into the river. Charlotte hears the splash and walks to the river to see what fell in and almost sees Cleo's tail, but Lewis notices in and gently grabs her face. Misinterpreting this as a romantic gesture, Charlotte leans in and kisses him with Cleo watching in horror. Lewis tries to talk to Cleo later but she tells him that since there is nothing between them anymore, he can do whatever he wants with Charlotte. Charlotte walks in as the two of them are talking and makes Cleo thank her for getting her highest biology grade yet. She takes Lewis' hand and asks if they are still going to hang out and Lewis reluctantly says, "I guess so." This marks the start of their relationship.
In Over Our Heads[]

Lewis goes to Emma's house to tell her and Cleo that just because he is now dating Charlotte, they can still rely on him but the girls still aren't happy that he took Charlotte to Mako. Before he can defend himself fully, Charlotte shows up at Emma's house looking for Lewis so that they can go on their date at the beach and drags him away. While they are hanging out, Charlotte secretly turns his phone off so that none of the girls can distract him from their date. When Lewis talks to Emma and Cleo later, Cleo is upset because she tried to call him but his phone was turned off and Lewis is left confused as to how his phone turned off by itself. When Lewis tries to leave Charlotte upon hearing that Rikki got hurt, Charlotte yells, "What about me? We're meant to be together but you're always chasing after them." Lewis asks her if that was the reason why she shut his phone off and she says that she just wanted them to finally hang out without them distracting him. Lewis tells her that his friends are important to him and leaves anyway.
Fish Fever[]

Lewis wins two tickets to the marine park in a raffle and decides to take Charlotte there on a date. Charlotte complains that the marine park isn't the most romantic place for a date but is still happy to spend time with him regardless. When Charlotte goes to the bathroom, Lewis finds Emma swimming in the dolphin tank where everyone can see her and ditches Charlotte to help the girls figure out what's wrong with Emma. Charlotte runs into Cleo multiple times after that looking for Lewis but Cleo lies every time about Lewis' whereabouts in order to keep her distracted. Eventually, Charlotte comes to the conclusion that Cleo is trying to sabotage their date and leaves the marine park angrily. Charlotte tells Lewis that he has to make it up to her later by taking her on a romantic trip down the canal.
Moonwalker[]

The revived Sertori family camping holiday is ill-fated not just by choice of location, Mako Island, but in the unfortunate timing of coinciding with the Full Moon. Cleo invites Rikki, Emma and Lewis to come with her; however, Lewis, feeling bad about cancelling on the date he promised Charlotte he'd take her on that night, invites her along too, upsetting the girls. The girls attempt to make Charlotte have a horrible time camping with them and start using their powers to scare her and Cleo's sister, Kim. Lewis politely asks them to not mess with Charlotte because he cares about her. In the middle of the night, Charlotte has a difficult time sleeping so she asks Lewis (who also can't sleep due to Don's snoring) to go on a walk with her and he agrees to a little walk. The two sit on a log together and share a romantic moment where they almost start kissing, but Kim finds them and tells them that Cleo wandered off and Lewis immediately rushes away with her to go see if everyone else is okay. Charlotte tells him to hurry back so that they can continue their moment. However, they never do because the now-moonstruck girls use their powers to scare Charlotte even more, eventually leading her to the Moon Pool right as the full moon heads over the volcano. Before she can touch the water, Emma freezes it and swims away before Charlotte can see her, leaving Charlotte terrified. The next morning, Lewis and the girls manage to convince her that she fell and hit her head and she hesitantly accepts that as the most plausible excuse.
Get Off My Tail[]

Missing Lewis, Cleo starts to ask Lewis if he would like to get a drink with her just as Charlotte interrupts them so that Lewis can take her on the date they planned. This saddens Cleo and makes her feel like Lewis likes Charlotte more because Charlotte isn't a mermaid like her. Rikki convinces Cleo that Lewis likes how unique she is compared to Charlotte and inspires Cleo to hang out with Lewis for a day, going on a swim with him to look for fishing bait. While Lewis is out with Cleo, Charlotte attempts to get a hold of him but he doesn't answer, upsetting her. Later, Charlotte confronts Lewis for not keeping in touch with her and tries to question where he was at all day until she realizes that its okay for her not to know where he is at all times. The next day, Cleo walks up to the couple and thanks Lewis for spending time with her. Charlotte gets upset that Lewis didn't tell her that they were hanging out but Lewis tells her that since Cleo has always been his good friend, he doesn't have to let her know when they are hanging out. Charlotte realizes that he is right.
Irresistible[]
Charlotte and Lewis are about to go on a lunch date when Zane shows Lewis his Ambergris perfume and sprays it on him. When Charlotte arrives, she changes her mind about going on a date with him because the perfume smells so bad. She watches him later as he pours out the perfume into the ocean with Zane.
Double Trouble[]

Charlotte and Lewis are on a date when Lewis falls asleep and has a nightmare about Cleo being revealed as a mermaid to everyone, while he can't stop it. Worried, Charlotte decides to take Lewis out of the sun for the day and they continue their date at the JuiceNet. Lewis is still worried about his nightmare and barely listens to Charlotte for the rest of their date. Emma's brother Elliot interrupts them to ask Lewis for girl advice. Later, as Charlotte and Lewis are about to go on another date, Elliot interrupts them again and asks if Lewis could come with him on his date with Kim. Lewis politely declines so that he can stay with Charlotte but Charlotte insists that she doesn't mind spending a day without him and urges him to help Elliot.
The Heat is On[]

Lewis and Charlotte are together when Lewis plans a date for them for the following night, leaving Charlotte surprised because typically she plans their dates and is happy that Lewis is showing more initiative. The next day, Lewis is helping Cleo with planning the girls' anniversary and forgets about the plans he made with Charlotte until she finds him and reminds him of their plans. However, Lewis still gets wrapped up for a long time with helping Cleo decorate the moon pool. When Lewis finally shows up, Charlotte is disappointed with how late he is--until he shows her that he set up a picnic for her with her favorite food and her favorite movie. Charlotte hugs him in gratitude.
The Gracie Code, Part One[]

When Cleo is out of earshot, Max tells Lewis that Cleo and Lewis should never have broken up because he "knows when people should be together". Lewis discovers a powerful ally in Max, who helps him continue on with his research. Charlotte is upset because she thinks Lewis is now purposely avoiding her.
The Gracie Code, Part Two[]

Lewis promises to go on a date with Charlotte, but ultimately forgets about her due to researching with the girls at Cleo's house. Charlotte calls Cleo's phone, since Lewis' phone was dead, to get a hold of Lewis, who then hurries to meet her at JuiceNet. Charlotte tells Lewis that she feels weird that he is always spending time with the girls instead of her and it makes her feel like she isn't even his girlfriend. Lewis explains to Charlotte that he has been working on a project with the girls so that's the reason he has been caught up lately. Charlotte grows suspicious and shows up to Cleo's house to question her about the project they're doing together, seeming to believe Cleo until she sees a picture of her grandmother, Gracie, on Cleo's whiteboard. Cleo and Rikki lie and say that it was just in the junk that they found and let Charlotte take the picture. Charlotte shows Lewis the picture and talks about her memories of her grandmother, thinking that the coincidence of Cleo having the picture is crazy until she looks closer and realizes that Cleo, Rikki and Emma wear the same locket as her grandmother.
Wanting to know more, Charlotte convinces Kim to let her into Cleo's room while Cleo isn't home and steals a film reel that Gracie appears on. She transfers the reel's contents to a disc and watches it on her laptop with Lewis. The film shows Max throwing Gracie into the water and her resurfacing as a mermaid smiling and waving at the camera, leaving Charlotte in shock. Lewis attempts to convince her that the film is just likely edited and she tries to believe him but still holds hope that her grandmother was possibly a mermaid.
And Then There Were Four[]

At school, Charlotte tries to talk to Lewis about mermaids, but he shuts her down and tells her that she is likely just looking for something that isn't there. As she looks through old pictures of her grandmother, she realizes that Max would be able to tell her if mermaids are real or not. Knowing that keeping Max's bag is dangerous now, he decides to give the bag back to Max, unaware that Charlotte had followed him there. When Lewis leaves, Charlotte runs up to Max and begs him to tell everything he knows about Gracie, revealing to him that she is her granddaughter. Max reveals everything to her about Gracie, including the fact that Gracie really was a mermaid. Charlotte later gets mad at Lewis for lying to him. The two get into an argument which leads Charlotte to beg him to finally be honest with him and stop constantly lying. Still, he refuses to tell her, causing her to storm off in anger. Charlotte continues to rewatch the video of her grandmother turning into a mermaid until she realizes that the video was filmed in the moon pool at Mako. She decides to go there and immediately after she arrives, Cleo, Rikki, and Emma appear in the moon pool as mermaids to hang out for a couple minutes. Charlotte sees them and decides to hide outside of the moon pool until they leave. Soon afterwards, the full moon passes overhead and Charlotte realizes that this is how her grandmother became a mermaid and jumps in, knowing that she will become a mermaid too.
The next day, Lewis meets up with Charlotte at the dock, intending to break up with her. However, before he can, Charlotte tells him that she finally understands now why he was so secretive about his friendships with Cleo, Emma and Rikki. She jumps into the water and transforms into a mermaid, leaving Lewis shocked.
Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble[]

Charlotte, overjoyed about becoming a mermaid, insists to Lewis that everything will be okay now that they don't have anything to hide from each other anymore and makes him promise not to keep secrets again. She also believes that she will be automatically let into Cleo, Rikki and Emma's friend group, where each girl has mixed feelings about her. Lewis manages to convince the girls to at least help Charlotte figure out her powers in hopes that they will all become friends soon enough. While at Emma's house, they all demonstrate their powers to Charlotte, who tries desperately to work a power of her own but to no success. Rikki particularly gets rather annoyed with having to help Charlotte and starts discouraging her as she's trying to figure out her powers, calling her a "slow-learner." In defense of Charlotte, Lewis reminds Rikki that she took even longer to figure out her own powers. To make matters worse, Charlotte gets put on Emma, Cleo and Rikki's beach volleyball team that they have to compete in to complete their water-sport credits for the year, where Rikki gets even more annoyed with having to work with Charlotte, much to Lewis' dismay. Charlotte becomes saddened when she realizes that the girls don't like her but Lewis encourages her to give it time since they are used to only having each other. Charlotte later ends up finding out that she has the same power as Cleo--ultimately making both Cleo and Rikki not like her.
During the volleyball game, the girls start off playing very poorly until Cleo gets the idea that they should use their powers to win the game. This brings all four girls together and they begin to enjoy working with Charlotte. When Lewis warns them about using their powers to win the game, Charlotte tells him to stay out of it, gaining the friendship of Rikki. However, her new friendships are put to the test when Charlotte accidentally touches water during the game and has to figure out a way by herself to hide from everybody and remove her tail so that she can get back to the game on time. While on the beach, she realizes she has Rikki's power too and dries her tail quickly, then has Lewis rush her back to the game, which the girls end up winning together. At the JuiceNet, Rikki questions how she dried off so quickly and Charlotte shows her that she now has not only Cleo's power, but Rikki and Emma's too, making the three girls annoyed with her again.
Reckless[]
After Charlotte has a scary encounter with a dolphin, the girls (except for Rikki) try to help Charlotte continue to figure out her powers, but she gets frustrated with them, believing that they are purely just trying to boss her around because they don't like her. Lewis tries to talk some sense into her but she doesn't take it. To try and further help, Lewis takes Charlotte to the marine park so that she can meet Ronnie and learn that dolphins really love mermaids. However, this goes wrong when Ronnie gets a little too playful with Charlotte, leading her to use her powers on Ronnie to get him away from her. This leads Cleo and Charlotte to get into an argument, with Cleo warning Charlotte not to use her powers in an open space and definitely not to use them to hurt a dolphin but Charlotte doesn't listen to her, still believing that they are just trying to boss her around. Lewis is left stuck in the middle. Later, Charlotte confides in Lewis that she feels like anytime the girls are nice to her, it's all just an act. She tells him that they are likely just scared because they became mermaids by accident but this was meant to happen to her, making her the only "real" mermaid out of the four of them.
When Nate starts messing with Lewis, Charlotte grows really defensive of Lewis, wanting to protect him. Nate ends up stealing Lewis' boat despite Charlotte's attempts to stop him. Desperate, she uses her powers out in the open in an attempt to embarrass him and make him give Lewis' boat back. The girls catch her doing this and combat all three of their powers against hers, eventually overruling her and making her give up. Lewis talks to her later and tells her that she can't put everyone at risk anymore by using her powers out in the open, but she tells him that she doesn't care about anyone except for him and her and will now be doing things her own way. Lewis is left not knowing what to say.
Three's Company[]

Lewis and Charlotte meet up at Mako Island and she shows him her fire powers and controls it. Charlotte asks how much time the girls controlled their powers and Lewis says it took a few weeks, leading Charlotte to believe that she is a "super mermaid." Afterwards, Charlotte and the girls plan what to do for Lewis' upcoming birthday. Rikki suggests a party boat, but Charlotte immediately shuts her idea down and tells the girls that they will be doing a surprise party.
Charlotte meets up with Annette and says Lewis' birthday is coming and so Charlotte decides to have a party at her house because Annette has a beautiful garden. Annette asks Charlotte to bring the chairs from the pool room. Charlotte brings the chairs, but sees the water is dripping from the broken pipe, so she freezes the water. Back at the cafe, Charlotte decides to pick music and food that she likes rather than listening to any input from the girls about what Lewis enjoys. Annoyed, Rikki immediately opts out of planning the party due to Charlotte taking control of everything.

The next day at the Watsford's House, Charlotte has invited her friends from her old school. Cleo, Emma and Ash (who was also invited to the party) question Charlotte where Lewis' friends are and Charlotte explains they're Lewis' friends. Lewis appears and is surprised to see the party. Charlotte introduces her friends to Lewis. He nervously tells his girlfriend that all of her invited guests are strangers to him, but she just laughs and tells him not to be silly as she's known them her whole life, seemingly unaware of the fact that she made him uncomfortable. Lewis gets bored and admits to Charlotte he hates all that Charlotte planned for the party. After that, a party boat appears, playing music that Lewis actually enjoys. Lewis asks Charlotte if this was also her idea and Rikki explains this was hers, Emma's and Cleo's. As Lewis starts think that's why they disappeared, Charlotte is unhappy to see Rikki at the party and the girls say that from now on, Charlotte must work alone.
Sea Change[]

Charlotte's short-lived friendship with the girls is over. She demands loyalty from Lewis by saying he cannot talk or have anything to do with Rikki, Emma, or "especially Cleo". Lewis only reluctantly agrees, hoping it's just temporary. Cleo escapes and meets Charlotte. Using her unfair advantage - her additional powers and strength - Charlotte beats Cleo in a brief showdown, steals her locket, and tells Cleo that Lewis no longer wants anything to do with her. Rikki and Emma tell Cleo to stay away from Charlotte and Lewis, and no longer listen to her, refusing to help. Feeling crushed, heart-broken and helpless, she tries to call Lewis, but Charlotte has stolen his phone. Heart-broken, isolated and overpowered, Cleo tries to escape her human life, she runs away from home, only to find herself in a shark breeding ground. Lewis finds out that Charlotte stole his phone and is trying to isolate him from the girls. Angered, Lewis breaks up with Charlotte, tells her that he no longer wants anything to do with her, saves Cleo, and gets back together with her and they kiss. Unfortunately, by choosing Cleo over Charlotte, Lewis has created an enemy more powerful than they could imagine.
Unfathomable[]

On the night of Charlotte's first full moon as a mermaid, the girls try to warn her not to look at the moon in an attempt to keep her safe. Charlotte, however, uses her powers to lift them up in the air (she reluctantly drops them down when she spots Ash), believing that she doesn't need their help. Lewis decides to talk to Charlotte himself. Charlotte grows a softer nature around him compared to her angry nature around the girls, telling him how much she misses him and wants to get back together with him. However, he tells her that he is with Cleo now and is not interested in getting back together with her. He still cares for her enough to warn her of the full moon and she listens to his warnings, however, completely goes against them and purposely looks at the full moon, rendering herself moonstruck. She immediately goes to Emma's house and uses her powers to mess with the girls as they try to maintain a peaceful night. Lewis, being the only one aware that the full moon that night is able to take powers away for good, decides to talk to Charlotte and convinces her to go to Mako Island, hoping to get her powers taken away.
In the middle of trying to convince her to take a swim in the moon pool to get her powers taken away, Cleo shows up, concerned for Lewis. Lewis realizes that Charlotte only agreed to go to Mako with him to bait Cleo to come looking for him so that she will be the one stuck in the moon pool as full moon heads over. Charlotte tells Lewis that she knew all along that the full moon would be taking away powers and since she wants to be special to Lewis instead of Cleo, she wanted to trick her into losing her powers forever. Charlotte's plans fail, however, when Rikki and Emma show up and all three of them have a power battle in attempts to get either side into the moon pool. Rikki, Cleo, and Emma overtake Charlotte with their Combined Atmokinesis in the end and she ends up losing her powers forever, all while Lewis watches.
In the end, Charlotte finds Lewis and tells him that despite everything, all she ever wanted was for him to care about her. He tells her that he did care for her, but he will always care for Cleo more than anybody. Charlotte tells him that if he ever changes his mind, he can always come back to her. Before she leaves, Lewis has her give her necklace back to Cleo.
